Video Screen shots- Singer

Here are shots of the lead singer Adam Johnson, these are the most important views that we put together and are planning to put into the rough edit.

These shots portray the lead singer from a personal point of view and also allow us to see the gritty setting we have created for the mise en scene with the floor boards and the electric cables. These four shots are going to be the most seen by the viewer, they are pivotal to getting the best effects and collaborating mixes of sound to reflect the quality of the video.

Stages for completion of Video

The Rough cut is the second of three stages of offline editing. The rough cut is the first stage in which the video begins to resemble its final product. Rough cuts do not flow well and still undergo many changes before the release of the video.
With the advent of digital non-linear editing systems, video goes through a number of stages between shooting on video camera and broadcast on the screen. The low cost of video tape and dvd has led to a huge quantity of shot content, and it is often not economical for the skilled video editors to use this raw content directly. A number of the preliminary stages can be undertaken by lower cost staff, or people less skilled in using expensive and sophisticated editing equipment such as directors. An example workflow is given below:

  1. Digitizing: Ingesting the material into a digital computer allows the video to be handled much more simply than when it is on its original tape
  2. Logging: Logging the shot material allows particular shots to be found more easily later
  3. Offline editing
  4. Initial Assembly: The selected shots are moved from the order they are filmed in into the approximate order they will appear in the final cut.
  5. Rough cut: More shot selection, approximate trimming. The sound is untreated, unfinished, and will require sound editing. Often dialogue and sound effects will be incomplete. Titles, graphics, special effects, and composites are usually represented only by crude placemarkers. Colors are untreated, unmatched, and generally unpleasant.
  6. Final cut: The final sequence of images and sound are selected and put in order.
  7. Online editing: The picture and sound quality of the program is adjusted and brought to their optimum levels.
  8. Mix: Audio is finished by a specialist with equipment in soundproof rooms.
These are the necessary steps we would take to create and finish the video with the use of various programs like Final-Cut and quicktime movie player.

Narrative Shooting- 3rd of March

The shots for the narrative we have so far consist of the protagonist played by Micheal Burrin being beaten by an unknown man who is played by Adam Johnson therefore we derived a darkish place (an alleyway) to make sure the feeling of derelict and destitution is portrayed not just by the actors themselves but the mise-en-scene also, we aim to use scenes like the one shot on Wednesday to put into perspective the physical and emotional make up our lead character we also want the story-line of the narrative to correspond vividly with the lyrics and appeal of the song,at the moments the effects we have in place our good enough to present a dark scenery for the music video, we hope to make sure with the right amount of lighting and scenery the narrative would be up to scratch with the quality of the performance, in a matter of days we hope to have screen shots of the rough cut for the music video ready, this would be an excellent sign of progress. Due to weather conditions the completion of the narrative has taken longer than usual, the work done on the 3rd of March was thanks to the determination shown by all members of the team.

Video Shoot- Video effects

A percentage of the band performance was shot on saturday (27th of february) and here is the type of effect we intend to overlay on the final edited raw footage. It is called the colour overlay, by twitching the levels of hue and saturation on the Finalcut computer programme we can give the video the physical and genre relevant feel we aim to achieve, our diredtor Micheal Burrin hopes to have the editing by the end of the week and Team member Adam Johnson is also planning on finishing the digipack very soon. At this point we have so many good shots from the performance section of the music video we arent sure if we are going to need a narrative for it, at the end of editing a final decision will be made with consideration of schedule and timescale if we would add a narrative to the video of just leave it as a band performance.
