Inventory for February 27th- (By Adam Johnson)

Inventory

1. be there for around 10am Saturday morning. If you can make it there earlier, all the better, but be no later than 10:30am. We wanna get going for an 11am start at the very latest.

2. Postcode for place is DA3 7AN - maps supplied. Basically from Longfield Station follow the main road down till you see a right curve in the road, with a left turning on the corner and the Green Man up ahead. Turn down this little lane and the unit is the first turn on the right.

3. Bring food/drink (e.g. big packs of crisps, Doritoes, big drinks, sweets etc.)  The closest place for food is the pub down the road, so just bring snacks along and we might decamp there for dinner at the end of the day or something :)

4. We'll be there till around 5pm, maybe a little later. If you're getting lifts back suggest pickups for around 5:30 onwards to give us a little overtime.

5. You are bringing: guitar, amp, leads, mic stand perhaps? spare camera if needed, anything else you feel appropriate.

6. If there are any problems with getting gear back home again, there is a huge metal container in the warehouse with it's own padlock. People can store their gear (guitars, drums etc) in there, I have it on the best authority that it is completely secure, it will be locked in the container inside the locked warehouse. So basically if you are having problems getting gear back home at the end of the day, we'll store it in the container, and you can contact me another day, and we'll head up there and retrieve the equipment.

Saturday 27th of February- Planned 1st day on set

This is a picture of the Form of building most of our band performance will be shot in,this location reflects the type of theme we are trying to put across, because of the derelict scenery and wide open spaces,at the moment we have a few problems with personnel, especially cameramen and grip-guys, we hope to enlist the like myself if possible to at the very least handle the camera under the directions of our director Micheal Burrin who is missing in action today but we hope will be strong enough to appear for the video scene, his presence is of pivotal importance to the success of our entire project,we hope to at least get the entire band performance done by the end of this weekend, which would give us time to begin work on our narrative section.

Textomatic-Ideas for start of the song

The textomatic is a written version of the Animatic, the word itself was invented by Adam Johnson, as his version of the storyboard in written form. Here is the 7th draft unfinished version:

(extended intro)
“I cant fucking stand it around here anymore! You just dont get it do you! You're a fucking wreck!”
“Where the hell do you think you're going?”
“As far away from this place as fucking possible!” (any fucking place but this) – shorter
(smash of glass, shriek, fades into intro part) (entire intro has slightly distorted sound, like the noise is overpowering the microphone)

(drums start, brief cut of drums (shot 21/5), fading cut of guy scrambling out front door, looking back, shouting something incomprehensible, bottle flies out door, he runs away off up street on the 'oh', footsteps almost in time with the music)

(right on the ‘oh’, cuts to band, high angle above them, no real focus on the singer at all, perhaps focus on guitarist playing lead, shots 32, 25, 19, 2)
(on the “ohhh” we get the first full shot of the band, zooming in on the singer from the front on, with the rest visible in the background, slightly blurred, mix of shot 7 and 3, shots of the singer from all sides, with each member (guitarist, bassist, drummer) partially visible in foreground of each shot)

Pull the top down, use your knees to drive

(shot 23 or 21, mix perhaps?)

I'll make it worth your while, just let me taste the sky

(long shot of person running down street, possibly down a hill, slowing, slumping up against a wall, finishes back on wall)

You pressed your mouth on mine and fed me a star

(scrabbles in jacket pocket, pulls out trinket/photo, (maybe band photo snuck in there?) and looks at girls face)

Then said we never, can truly, know who we are

('we never can truly know who we are' is scribbled on the photo, cuts to low angle shot of his face, he kisses the photo and darts off down the street, camera remains motionless so he exits out of shot on the left)

(zooms back into band, doesn't focus on singer, almost zooms right past him, shots 24, 28, low angle on bassist to the right of frame with drummer in background to left)

Know who we are...

(brief 14 just for the sung line, 30 (perhaps), 19).

With the lights out and the night inside

(shot 14)

The broken radio was playing suicide
(cuts to radio in girls bedroom, she looks out of window, realising someone is there, and darts out of shot)
I felt myself falling, I confessed to you

(shot 7)

I saw a body, you said you'd seen a few

(camera over the shoulder of the girl, she moves to front door, flings it open and sees the man at the end of the pathway, battered, exhausted and desperate.)

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned
Now's the time
We'll finally pass the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun

The gun...

(side-on shot of singer singing this line, pan sideways so that he slips out of shot and it seems to give the impression that the singer has moved backwards to reveal the next shot. Low cut across the field, moving sideways, catching them running slowly, looking back across, they wrap an arm around each other and keep moving)

Keep the top down, use your knees to drive
I'll hide these words, there only yours to find
You pressed your mouth on mine and said they call us stars
Then said we never, can truly, know who we are

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned
Now's the time
We'll finally pass the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun

(entire section in black and white/liquid effect, seems to feel like a memory)

Everything was burning bright
Everyone was frightened
You said, "Stay Strong"

(low angle shot, she mouths the word ‘stay strong’)

Everybody knowing that what we invited

(singer close up, shot 7, moving hand and face linking with the word ‘knowing’)

Still remains when we're gone

This night has only just begun
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned
Now's the time
We'll finally pass the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun
Ohhh...

This night has only just begun

If there's discretion that you've not abandoned

Now's the time

(singer throws arm out wide)

We'll finally pass the morning sun
Go grab your bag, I'll bring the gun

The gun..

(blurs, movement in background, camera is moving downwards, not tilting, figures in background are not in focus)

I'll bring the gun...

(brief cut to singer?)

(camera falls down to ground level, body of just the male is seen, slumped on ground, figures come into focus, one is the girl in question, she gives a visible look of shock on the word…)

 oh...

(brief shot of possible suicide note, we never can truly know who we are)

(cut after shot of band frozen, singer with head bowed, almost in mourning, microphone held to one side of his face, other hand covering his eyes, the rest of the band mimic this too. Cut up to singers face, medium close up, slowly raises head and uncovers eyes with a notable sigh of regret and grimaces. Slow fade out.)

Video Concept 3

Backwards Action
All or portions of the video are done in reverse. Usually, although not always, makes use of how strange setting things on fire, getting really dirty, or smashing your guitar look when played backwards. Sometimes the singer will lip synch backwards, still others try to mime playing their instruments backwards as well, which looks totally wrong more often than not.

  • Mute Math, "Typical"
  • Jack Johnson, "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing"
  • The Matches, "Chain Me Free"
  • Remy Zero, "Save Me" (yes, the Smallville theme song)
  • Coldplay, "The Scientist"
  • The ending of "Weird Al" Yankovic's "Amish Paradise"
  • Nine Inch Nails, "Deep"
  • Enigma, "Return to Innocence"
  • Linkin Park, "Bleed It Out"
  • Embrace, "Ashes"
  • Elio e le Storie Tese, "Mio cuggino". They even acknowledge this in the beginning of the video, by saying it was filmed in "IndietroScope" (indietro means "backwards" in Italian). It is also lip-synched backwards.
  • God Lives Underwater, "From Your Mouth". The entire video consists of reversed footage of one man eating.
  • The Pharcyde, "Drop". The group performs the entire song backwards, and shows what getting 100 gallons of water dumped on you looks like in reverse.
  • David Cook, "Come Back To Me"
  • Cibo Matto, "Sugar Water" runs backwards AND forwards on opposite sides of the screen and briefly joins up in the middle. One side is flipped so it take a while to work out what's happening.

More Video Concept

Junkyard/Construction Site
Another one popular with the hard rock crowd, this setting seems dependent on the theme of disorganization or destruction (yes, even the construction sites). Often with random fires scattered about, usually at night.

  • Tesla, "No Way Out"
  • Britny Fox, "Long Way To Love"
  • The British-only video for Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" featured a house being demolished — with the band inside.
  • Green Day, "Brainstew"

Video Concept

We aim to have a band performance and a story-line narrative for the music video. The concept we have is more of the following:
Garage Rock
This video shows the band using a "classic" rehearsal space such as a garage, warehouse, maybe even a spare bedroom. Real big with young or just-starting-out hard rock bands, or with older bands looking to reconnect to such times.

  • Metallica's "One", between clips from the movie Johnny Got His Gun, showed the band in a warehouse. An alternate version removed the film clips.
  • Trixter, "Give It To Me Good"
  • The Offspring, "Can't Repeat"
  • Orange, "No Rest For The Weekend"
  • Bowling For Soup's 1985 video is this with references to famous video tropes and bands.
  • Billy Talent, "River Below"
  • The Smithereens, "Blood & Roses"
  • No Doubt's "Don't Speak" alters between this, the Performance Video and photo-session scenes.
  • Weezer, "Say It Ain't So"

End Transmission Lyrics

Pull the top down, use your knees to drive.
I'll make it worth your while just let me taste the sky.
You pressed your mouth on mine and fed me a star
Then said "we never can truly know who we are."
Know who we are.

With the lights out and the night inside
The broken radio was playing suicide.
I felt myself falling.
I confessed to you "I saw a body."
You said you'd seen a few.

This night has only just begun.
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned now's the time.
We'll burn to best the morning's son.
Go grab your bag I'll bring the gun, the gun.

Keep the top down use your knees to drive.
I'll hide these words. They're only yours to find.
You pressed your mouth on mine and said they'd call us stars.

This night has only just begun.
If there's discretion that you've not abandoned now's the time.
We'll burn to best the morning's son.
Go grab your bag I'll bring the gun, the gun.
I'll bring the gun
Oh...

Style of AFI

Crash Love continues AFI's trend of varying their style from one release to the next, with a sound rooted in punk rock but having absorbed and experimented with hardcore punkgothic rock, and electropop influences on previous albums.Bassist Hunter Burgan described Crash Love as "definitely more of a rock album–more immediate and definitely more of a focused, direct approach musically. Compared to Decemberunderground, where some of the songs were more subtle, these are more in-your-face." Dave de Sylvia of Sputnikmusic speculated that part of the motivation behind Puget and Havok's side project Blaqk Audio was to allow them to expand on the electronic elements that had been prevalent onDecemberunderground while preserving AFI as a primarily pop-punk act. Havok stated that though it was not a purposeful move, the experience with Blaqk Audio did contribute to there being few electronic elements on Crash Love:
Crash Love is a more guitar-focused, guitar-based record than Decemberunderground was. I think what that is a result of is Jade and I having toured for two months and recorded the CexCells record [with Blaqk Audio]. So when we sat down and began writing Crash Love it was refreshing to be playing rock and I think that having done Blaqk Audio, it rejuvenated our interest in rock. Blaqk Audio was already entirely purely electronic but coming from that sitting down and writing rock we just didn't have as much inspiration to insert those electronic [sounds] into the rock music that we were playing. But it wasn’t a conscious thing.
Critics compared Crash Love's sound to Morrissey, the RaspberriesThe CureThe SmithsU2,New Order, and Alkaline Trio. Some compared Puget's guitar lines to Jimmy PageJohnny MarrTrent Reznor, and Black Sabbath. Several critics compared "Too Shy to Scream" to Adam and the Ants, specifically the song "Goody Two-Shoes".

Album Info: Crash Love

Crash Love is the eighth studio album by the rock band AFI. Produced by Joe McGrath and Jacknife Lee, it was released on September 29, 2009 through Interscope Records.Following the touring cycle for 2006's Decemberunderground, AFI spent two years writing and recording their next album while also working on a number of side projects: bassist Hunter Burgan started Hunter Revenge and briefly reunited with his old band The Force, while singer Davey Havok and guitarist Jade Puget recorded and performed as the electronic act Blaqk Audio. Havok also launched a fashion line while Puget worked on remixing and production for other musical artists. In November 2008 AFI announced that they had finished writing their next album and would be recording it with producer David Bottrill. The following month the band's official website was redesigned and relaunched, and a contest entitled "Begin Transmission" was announced in which fans were invited to submit homemade videos to be considered for a spot to record backing vocals on the album. Thousands of entries were received and personally reviewed by the band members, and the five winners recorded their parts with the band at Conway Studios in Los Angeles in February 2009. The album's first single, "Medicate", became available for purchase through iTunes on August 25, 2009, was released to radio stations September 1,and is included as a playable track in the video game Guitar Hero 5. Deluxe CD and digital download editions of Crash Love include a number of b-side and demo tracks as additional content. The album debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200, selling 52,000 copies in the US in its first week.

AFI- End Transmission

AFI
(A Fire Inside) is an American alternative rock band from UkiahCalifornia, formed in 1991. They have consisted of the same lineup since 1998, lead vocalist Davey Havok, drummer and backup vocalist Adam Carson, with bassist Hunter Burgan and guitarist Jade Puget, who both play keyboard and contribute backup vocals.
AFI has released eight studio albums over 18 years as a band, the first being Answer That and Stay Fashionable in 1995. The band then went on to release Very Proud of Ya the next year, followed up by a third in three years, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes. Over the years, AFI has changed its style from the earlier days of hardcore punk, to the horror punk-influenced sound of 1999's Black Sails in the Sunset and 2000's The Art of Drowning. It was not until this, the band's fifth album, that the band first featured on the charts, as The Art of Drowning peaked at #172 on the Billboard 200.
The band had its first major success 12 years after it formed, in 2003, with Sing the Sorrow reaching #5 on the Billboard 200. The album was supported by singles "Girl's Not Grey" and "The Leaving Song, Pt. II", both featured in the top 20 of America's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2003. It went onto receive Platinum certification with over one million units sold in the US.
The band returned in 2006 with Decemberunderground, which featured the hit single "Miss Murder". Both achieved #1 in their respective charts, the Billboard 200 and Hot Modern Rock Tracks. The album also featured "Love Like Winter", which attained #4 on the Modern Rock charts. It reached as far as Australia, where it grasped Gold certification, and also achieved this in the United States, where it has sold in excess of 900,000 copies. AFI's eighth studio album is titled Crash Love and was released on September 29, 2009.

Overhaul of ideas

We have decided at this point of our project that the ideas we aim to initiate for our 'Hunting for witches video' cannot be feasible. Therefore we have decided to change the song. and create a more attractive direction for ourselves.

More Inventory

Extension Cables
Extension cables are wires that would enables us to power the camera remotely and also power up our outdoor lighting, with cables we can make sure every appliance we use both on set and on location would work very efficiently.

Inventory

Camera

The camera is the most important element of our shooting, we aim to use a quality model like the Sony CMOS camera because of its sharp lens and extensive digital zoom.

Lighting

The lighting of our video must be consistent to make all our shots original, so we aims to use the correct lighting to get the best quality for our shots which are to be both indoors and outdoors.

Tripod:

The tripod is going to ensure stability on all our much more difficult shots and make sure we don't get any wobbling from the frame also making sure when we edit our video we have a massive range of good and strong clips to choose from.
